I am slowly losing interest in fiction. Is this a sign of maturity, or deterioration of artistic psyche?

All jokes aside, you should go to a bookstore and browse the fiction section for a good hour. If you cannot find anything of interest, just drop the idea and move on.

Some fiction is mature, some is immature, but judging by the picture choice, you're still a retarded teenager, so don't worry about maturing yet.

Fiction is fiction, even if it moves you it's just some guy's opinion.
The best book is The C++ Programming Language by Bjarne Stroustrup btw

If you don't have an interest in fiction, that's okay. Let it be for a while. Do something else that might interest you. try something new, like cooking or something. Eventaully you'll get the urge to come back to it.

On another note, this is a strange picture. I hate the strawberries. It detracts from the whole picture. Almost trivializes it. But then I wonder if it was intentional? Perhaps it was, "Yeah we know where you're gonna look" or perhaps it was an intentional attempt to mar the beauty of the picture. Of course, perfection is unattainable; we can only approach it asymptotically. But once we are reasonably close to it, it's good enough. In other words, the strawberries are there because almost perfect is actually better than perfect.
The women don't feel real without the strawberries. It's the green. It could have been easily arranged so that the green parts could have been hidden or removed, but they were very intentionally kept there. But their presence lends (is this the word?) verisimilitude to this picture. Now it isn't a representation of women- something to admire in a crass and brutal manner. Now I look at their arms, their knees, the veins on their hands, how pink their nails look, their necks, the tilt of their head, how they've applied their make up, and made up their hair. I look at both of their expressions and it looks like something I might see in real life on the street: a woman at the bus stop smiling to herself for something amusing she remembered when she saw something across the street. This is in contrast to the other expression, which is far less gentle, but her eyes make me wonder what kind of life she leads. WIll she go back to an empty household? What will she eat? Will she cook for herself. Will she satisfy herself with nothing but a cup of instant ramen? Perhaps she still lives with family. Perhaps she has a younger or older sibling. What does she wear outside this stage? Perhaps she has a spouse or a child. What does she think about when she takes a shit but forgot her phone outside?

lots of retarded replies in here. OP, just read non-fiction until you want to go back to fiction. this happens no biggie

What kind of fiction are you reading?

>> No.13961403

This is actually a fair question, I used to never think I would feel this way but I definitely do now. Fiction just feels like a waste of time even though I know I would like it and get something out of it if I read fiction. I used to love fiction and get a lot out of it, read all the Classics and a lot of the canon of works for every country but now I just feel guilty and stupid for wasting time on it. I have so much to do in my life and fiction in reality doesn't do anything to help me improve. At least philosophy or political texts I can claim are mentally stimulating but most fiction is just meh. I started reading a fiction book the other day, read it for a couple hours, and I just put it down, I wasn't getting anything out of it.

Have you tried skimming fiction? I highlight and take notes of dialogue/quotes that could improve my writing/speech. I also note down character traits that could improve my life, as well as plot segments that could be useful in communicating concepts.

I do mostly read non-fiction, but I fully believe that fiction has value in self-improvement too. (Then maybe later, you can get back to reading fiction purely for fun/escapism, when life sucks sometimes.)

If there is anything that this board and wider experience has taught me, it's that preferring nonfiction to fiction is peak midwit. You should probably spend less time here; it might be a negative influence.
