Did this actually happen to you or is this all some hypothetical bullshit?

That doesn't really happen, man. Literature is different in that it attracts a different crowd. It fucked over Junot Diaz because he was a "fuck white people, fuck men, yasss women" guy. That meant that when he got exposed, no one was there to care because he built himself up on a hypocrisy. Just don't do that. Look at DFW. That same year, he was accused of harassing some lady and now nobody cares. It probably helps that he's dead, but that accusation had almost nothing to do with his work. Just be authentic, anon.

You're kinda right. Junot Diaz got fucked over because if you play the social justice game you'll always have a target on your back. Those people are more likely to destroy one another than they are people who completely disagree with them.
You are right about how no one wanted to back Diaz because he shit on basically everyone though.
Regarding DFW I'm not sure what you're talking about, he's shit on quite often today. Just google his name and I'm sure you'll find negative articles about how we should "rethink" his legacy or some bullshit.

Well I brought up Wallace because I've recently seen a lot of interest in him lately. I looked him up yesterday for a personal argument and there was a "rethinking" article, but it was about the truth (and in a sense, sincerity) of his nonfiction work. I'm sure some bottomfeeding muckrakers are trying to drag him still, but I think he's pretty much safe. Hell, his Wiki page doesn't even touch on it. Same with Bloom (though I'm not sure a #metoo about a literary credit holds as much clickbait value).

The people that shit on DFW are, in general, a very loud minority

>> No.13920386

That's with everyone that gets shit on. People get "cancelled" over like three "journalists" on twitter making calls and sponsors/promoters/etc. or a few bottomfeeders looking to get some clout.
Normal people don't dig through people's past to ruin them. It's always a small minority.

>not being witty, charming, and charismatic enough to respond to your critics and defeat them

Every great writer and poet has pissed people off. The trick is, how do you respond. Byron was legendarily combative with his critics, for example, and often loved to insult and belittle them.

Every King fan has long accepted that he's a pervy cokehead; every normie that likes him just likes his movies and he's anti-Trump enough that they can forget about the sex stuff after a while.

Several pages of weird sex alongside 60+ novels doesn't make him perverted though. Also King was coked out of his mind at the time and probably thought it made sense from a literary point of view

Yeah it doesn't work today. You will just be deplatformed, slandered, and attack everywhere. A character built up to the extent that it doesn't align with you at all, built up to the extent that even when having a conversation with you they don't know who they're talking to and your words will just go in one ear and out the other. Such is the modern's nature and our civiilisation's legacy.
