Names are one of the few stable things in life. Who knows what horrors you'll unleash by changing them?

A recent naming ceremony in Canada comes to mind:

>Winnipeg recently dedicated a park to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of the modern state of Pakistan.

Why was Lovecraft such an autistic cringelord?

>I am naturally a Nordic — a chalk-white, bulky Teuton of the Scandinavian or North-German forests — a Viking berserk killer — a predatory rover of Hengist and Horsa — a conqueror of Celts and mongrels and founders of Empires — a son of the thunders and the arctic winds, and brother to the frosts and the auroras — a drinker of foemen's blood from new picked skulls — a friend of the mountain buzzards and feeder of seacoast vultures — a blond beast of eternal snows and frozen oceans — a prayer to Odin and Thor and Woden and Alfadur, the raucous shouter of Niffelheim — a comrade of the wolves, and rider of nightmares

I continue to maintain that this poem is a playful, and entertaining, engagement with the 'great chain of being'--an idea that impressed itself on intellectuals since Plato's day.

By changing Anglos nobody for glorious European pioneers? You'd unleash a lot of improvement I'd say. And names aren't stable at all, they just take a bit longer to change.

Is that from him? I like Lovecraft but imagining his sheltered hypocondriac British self writing this while his Jewish wife makes pudding for him is pretty cringy.

Lovecraft tried to help a Swede once. It didn't work.

The beginning is meh, then it gets decent, then better if a bit repetitive and the end is really good.

It's also very funny to think Lovecraft's idea of the swarming immigrants horror is a mix of Spaniards, Swedes, Irishmen and Jews. Basically he's complaining that America is made of European immigrants.
The bit about Nouvelle Paris is really good when you remember this is the country that has a city named Baton Rouge.
