What did nietzsche mean when he said in bge 94 ?
>"affability contains no hatred of men, but for that very reason too much contempt for men"

My understanding is that he's saying no ones natural state is to be friendly and pleasant-- people only act that way out of principle and choice, as if meaning "fine, I WILL be nice to you, but that's because I'm a generous and merciful God"

If that's the case then I'm in disagreement with him

Contempt—because the other man is not worthy of hatred.

Maybe he's implying that being hated is preferable to being considered too unimportant/insignificant to be hated at all ( and you usually have contempt for the things that you perceive to be both inferior and insignificant, but hating something/somebody automatically elevates them to a certain level of significance ).

In most civilized societies you will be affable to those you have contempt for, because the moment you decide they're worth active hostility they're hated ( due to what I said a moment ago ).

My 2 cents.

>the absolute state of brainlets
It couldn't be more clear, he is saying you discredit humanity by not being critical of it.

My copy of bge has a different 94
>Maturity in a man: that means having found once again that seriousness which man had as a child, in play.
