Help please, I just signed up for an evening literary studies course on Dostoevsky just because I need a hobby, but I have no idea what you even do in a course like this. What is expected of me except reading? Should I take notes? any tips?
All my college experience is just from engineering and math courses

how about, maybe read his books...?

Start with Notes from the Underground or Poor Folk or any short story like Dream of a ridiculous man. His works are not at all hard to understand, especially for a college graduate. They have amazing depth though.
