I'm a huge American Patriotard but I never read American Lit because most of it that I've tried has been garbage.

Can anyone recommend decent American books? Moby Dick is the only one I've liked so far

American Transcendentalism and the American 1960s counterculture both churned out high volumes of distinctly American writing.

He's probably some ESL that only read translations. Don't get too mad at him.

The Americans are the living refutation of the Cartesian axiom, "I think, therefore I am": Americans do not think, yet they are. The American 'mind', puerile and primitive, lacks characteristic form and is therefore open to every kind of standardization.

Not the same poster, but my bad.
We've listed a bunch of works widely regarded as essential 20th century canon and your argument was to call them all mediocre with no qualification so good job, right on par with the typical /lit/fag who's never read anything that was listed.

Nabokov (lol) if you like evil lolis and incest, Faulkner for a leftist describing white trashs families during slavery and shit, Foster Wallace, for post-modern non-sense, Pynchon for weird autistic genius, then there's this guy who writes about great depression stuff named Steinbeck I believe. Bleh.

Don't forget Bill Burroughs. Junkie is great, and easy to consume if you don't mind getting depressed. His other stuff is a little difficult to stomach, and a little pretentious. Idk, maybe if you dig really deep the work justifies it's excesses, but I didn't have the patience. I'll probably try it again and change my mind. Other Beats I could take or leave
