And but so, how does one overcome anhedonia?

>> No.13674440

This book genuinely is the culmination and climax of every horrible thing about postwar bourgeouis establishment literary culture, which created one of the most boring literary eras of the past 500 years.

It's a blessing that the literary era this book was the culmination of is gone now.

you don't overcome anhedonia.

You can either abstain and go through the pain of not indulging in pleasure. You can get drunk on pleasure and amuse yourself to death. In theory you can learn to moderate, but most are incapable. You might as well pick the vice you want to kill you and have a nice day.

I've heard more about this book on here than I've heard about any book anywhere else. The amount you hear about it here you'd think it was the MCU or Star Wars of literature, but it's not talked about anywhere else nearly as much. I don't think I've ever been on /lit/ and not seen at least two Infinite Jest threads.

funny that you say that when it not only killed the movement you speak of, it was also the seeds of postmodern literature, which I don't imagine you like very much based on your comment

It was never nearly as much a thing as many here make it out to be, it just has a small and very loyal fallowing.

Personally I think most of the naysayers here are actually fanboys dropping bait.

>>13674566
The book was actually written in 1894 by an unknown author, DFW found it and updated it a bit.

He didn't start postmodern literature, if anything he was trying to kill it.

In the current political climate, you can't really mention DFW because he's kind of like the Bernie Sanders of literature. By that, I mean he is loved by white dudes and as we all know being a white dude is pretty much illegal in 2019 and I'm sure some fat dyke will say he's sexist or racist.

>It was DFW's revolt against that culture.

It was more an ingenious attempt at canonization. In reality DFW's reflexivity on reflectivity was just an extension of metafiction, albeit a brilliant one.

Which is fucking weird if you think about it. All his fiction are 90% about nihilistic characters and maybe 1 or 2 saints here and there.

This is Water really did more harm than good.
