The wizard who first possessed the elder wand got his throat slit by a simple knife.

Oh btw, I'll enchant the bullets so that they can penetrate your le magic anti-muggle bulwark

Knives are a simpler technology than guns.

Muggle technology doesn’t work at Hogwarts, even simple stuff like scuba gear is mentioned in book 4 as not working there. Even if you could somehow enchant it to make it work, it would be a trifle for an experienced wizard to cast some sort of bubble spell that blocks bullets, and then when you go to reload he could melt your gun shut or whatever.

There’s plenty of silly things about Harry Potter—the apparent dearth of magical jobs being one—but I’ve never understood why people jump straight to HAHA GUNS BEAT MAGIC XD. Even if your argument had a leg to stand on, it is clearly told in a fairy tale Roald Dahl style and not meant to be appreciated for its epic realism.

So no logic in Harry potter books then, since everything non magical can be considered wow le muggle technology? Doesn't work here!

Okay, I am a wizard and make an automatic gun that shoots spells instead of bullets, now what?

It’s only Hogwarts and possibly the Ministry of Magic where the “Muggle technology rule” applies, because those areas have been centers of magical activity since the Middle Ages. You might be able to get away with a gun in other locations, though again wizards would probably just start casting bullet repelling charms on themselves when they leave the house.

As to your “magic gun” idea I suppose it’s plausible, though you definitely couldn’t put an advanced spell like the Killing Curse on it because those require specific mindsets to be present in the user and that probably couldn’t be stored in a physical weapon.

Crossbows work (Hagrid uses one) so technically it would be about being smart and ambushing wizards from a distance with poisonous arrows. However you may make the same kind of points about many stories.

literally wrong, they just couldn't accio it all the way to hogwarts because of how it would look. it was never said it wouldn't work.
