Science and this "Pascal's wager" can coexist. Also, is science the only thing we need to "secure a sustainable future?" If I recall correctly science alienated us from nature, exploits the surroundings, and poisons/kills people with chemicals/drugs/bombs/etc. We don't need more "science" we need to halt its progress

The irony is Pascal's wager is itself retarded for entirely different reasons. It presupposes that God would punish you for not believing in him and therefore it is better to believe in him. But A) as Kierkegaard argued God is by definition infinitely more complex than man and therefore inscrutable so believing in God has arguably as much chance in condemning your soul as not believing in God; B) there are any number of dieties many of which are in direct contradiction with each other, some religions demand punishment for those following other religions while sparing those who follow no religion, it may be the safer bet to believe in no religion than to actively be against 99% of other religions, C) an omniscient God would know your motivations for every action you take, therefore 'tricking' your way into salvation is pointless. He already knows if and why you believe and ultimately it is entirely at his discretion what happens to you, it's like trying to bargain when you have NO leverage.
