Why isn't this book discussed more here?

>> No.13614651

pretty simple: the /lit/ posters who've been around for a while read it years ago and have either discussed it to death or deemed it not worth discussing, and the new /lit/ posters don't read

This x10. Last year and the year before there was always at least 3 dfw threads going at once.

Pretty much this. But the book is a masterpiece in portraying the bizarre state of modernity. Op, do you want to discuss the book or your sole intent was to make this meta thread and complain like the faggot you are?

Mainly because nu-/lit/ is taken over by shitposting mutts that don't read and just want to discuss race realism.

I don’t really remember that. This would be true of /lit/ c. 2013 though

Everytime it’s brought up it’s dismissed with a slew of ironical and cooly written remarks, mostly regarding its author and little about the work itself, yes, the irony of such a state of affairs

How come Tao Lin stopped shilling himself on here?

The cultural scene in which alt-lit could flourish has come and gone

As a long time reader, I have found that the "book" aspect of my books tends to overshadow the content itself and the reading experience of the book itself. Some books that are written to be read by their authors are so bad they have absolutely no chance of being taken seriously as "literary." In a way my view on such things is pretty skewed. In this book though, you actually get to see how the author and her team of artists are really working to create a great story.

I understand that you are not writing for any specific "genre" but I find your perspective interesting to hear. I also think readers will learn a lot as they read the book that it truly is a book about writing.

Hang on a second here, who doesn't love to read about books, or at least about interesting subjects as opposed to boring historical trivia?

Do you have to understand all of the major writers' and stories' in order to appreciate this book? Or is this one book for you?

The fact that the world has never collapsed isn't a major theme in the book. That's simply a story arc we tell ourselves from the beginning which is fun.

I reread it every so often and then want to discuss it but what fpbp said.

>"cultural scene"
>less than 200 mostly jewish NY socialites who all know eachother

All of the people who published, vetted, reviewed, and read that shit were part of the same small clique. It was one big payola circlejerk.

This was definitely true in 2016. I couldn't avoid the threads.

Because most OPs are low effort. Start a new thread and put in some time on OP, write a few well thought out paragraphs regarding an aspect of the book that you would like to discuss, people will discuss.

this is not a zoomer criticism but people who are below 25 rarely read anymore, and people in their teens literally laughed in my face at the proposal of reading a book when they had no data connection on their phone

>> No.13615476

>>13615404
I feel like some zoomers are aging into reading. I know a few of my friends who were chanspergs have picked up reading since starting uni and realising everything here really is a work of fiction. I wouldn't be surprised to see reading as distinct hobby take off amongst the current crop of teens in their twenties, but certainly not as a widespread or assumed activity.
