What's your opinion on writers using substances to fight off the block or anxiety? Anything from coffee, to beer, to wine, weed, hard drugs, etc.

>Lord Byron needed to have sex to write. He slept with 250 women and men in one year in Venice, and for each conquest, he took a clipping of his partner’s pubic hair and saved it in an envelope neatly marked with his or her name.

you can be a degenerate and you can be a degenerate and write some shit, what is the big difference?

Love the buzz a whole pot of coffee and a joint give me to write. For outlines and editing my own stuff I like to be sober. Alcohol also stifles inhibition makes dumping words on a page without feeling stupid or self-important.

I use coffee to help stay awake while I read. I use weed to cope with my wageslave life when I’m not pursuing literature. That being said, didn’t Balzac drink, like, 40 cups of coffee a day?

I'm with ya, bud.
Recently, I think I've accepted that I have an addictive personality-- it's in my genes, my compulsions, etc. I honestly think I'm addicted to altered states: I just make sure not to take anything lethal, physically or rapidly addicting. Mainly, weed and psychs. Which, are nothing compared to my coffee and nicotine addiction. You don't have to shoot junk to be a junky: if I do anything semi habitual, it seems to just become apart of me. It's strange, half the time I think I just need something to do. Adult thumb sucking, if you will. This realization also helped me understand food and porn addiction.
Anyway, yeah.. it's a cope. Probably just another excuse not to do things that are good for me. I find myself taking 'smoke breaks' instead of writing quite often.
It's a grueling process.

Do european women really have pubes? That’s so nasty

When I'm editing I'll smoke weed to deliberate induce a state of anxiety, which makes me especially sensitive to cringy things I've written. It's not a pleasant experience, but it helps me eliminate the sentences I've deluded myself into thinking are good.

I've written on various drugs and wouldn't say that any of them improve my writing overall, but it's instructive to be able to see your writing in different altered states. It's the next best thing to erasing your memory and reading yourself like you're another person.

Look up Demi Moore's nudes from the 1981 edition of Oui. People used think Hollywood waxing was for hookers trying to attract pedos when it started in the 90s.
