Why is this piece of shit still forced down students throats to this day?
What literary value does it have?

You literally cannot refute it though.
I thought it was brilliant at 13, it’s the book that got me into classics.

it's a good book to introduce students to something more complex than ya. it has very overt themes of "people bad" and the herd mentality, as well as symbolism like piggys glasses and people's diets.

>symbolism like piggys glasses

Because it's the perfect book for 12-14 year old to start reading more deeply by observing the themes and underlying message to the story. Obviously as an adult it seems a little hamfisted.

Same. I loved it, but most people seem to hate it for some reason.

This was the only book I enjoyed in school. I also enjoyed the short story titled "Greasy Lake," if that counts. Everything else read in school was atrociously boring.

they represent civilization, the glasses allow people to create fire, which is one of the only things they produce instead of just take. the glasses break when the wild group finally wins.
