Yeah im aware of the base/superstructure diagram. The problem is that the paradigm is extremely reductive, and its flaws start to show when Marx ventured out of the realm of criticism and started to make positive suggestions or predictions of the future, where he almost always failed miserably. Class consciousness is a joke that never got anywhere, and many phenomenons persisted even after their supposed material base fell away, such as religion, tribalism, nationalism, etc.
The great irony is that Spengler did away with empiricism and saw the limitations of the fetishation of science such as in Marx' case, which allowed him to make far better predictions of the future.
