Im considering going into philosophy/sociology Grad School but i hear that the people in philosophical academia are completely insufferable. How true is that?

working sucks, regardless of the area. You may love it, in couple years you'll start hating it and you will dread going to work, like everyone else. The only reason to work is money.
Therefore, if you will hate it anyway, do something that will get you money, do what you like on the side, by yourself.
