I was thinking about buying Gardens of the Moon, so I found the first chapter online.

Monstrous and misshapen, it had been cold-hammered into the form of a winged demon, teeth bared in a leering grin, and was tugged and buffeted in squealing protest with every gust of wind.

Holy shit. This writing is terrible. I don't want to read any further.
Is this for real, or am I finding poorly transcribed free chapters?

I get the feeling that you'd like Harlan Ellison, or if you feel like going a little more cyberpunk, William Gibson's Burning Chrome ( a short story collection ) + Sprawl Trilogy would keep you busy ( and entertained ) for quite a while.
