Why are there so many Christians on /lit/? Not trying to attack you guys. I'm honestly curious as to what attracts you to this board, on this site, of all places. Also, how did you become Christian?

>> No.13427272

Christians have calmed down lately.
Don’t poke them, you remember how atrocious they got a few months back?

I am not one of the Christians on here, but most of those guys are catholics. Catholics have a pretty based view upon literature, art, and philosophy. As well as a lot of Catholic literature, art, and philosophy is based. Not only is it based, but a whole lot of literature from the western canon is Christian or Catholic. Therefore, people who have deep interest in literature and philosophy not rarely read a lot of Christian/Catholic literature. They don't head into the works as Christians, but become so after having read the Bible, the Summa, Dante etc etc.. The Christians here became Christian on /lit/, they didn't come here as Christians, is my guess.

It is also a whole lot of LARPers.

>> No.13427396

Western canon is very catholic so Catholics tend to be very into discussing the kinda meme literature /lit/ likes.
Also /pol/ asthetic larpers who don’t care for the religion and it’s moral but just want a justified reason to yell at gays

I mean protestants and orthodoxs also have good views of art, literature and philosophy, as do buddhists, hindus and jews

Except Americans, they ruin everything

Might just be the protestantism in my country (Norway), but art is completely unimportant for them. As for orthodoxs, yeah they're as based as catholics.

Hindus and Buddhists do, but it is not a part of the western canon, so it is quite unfamiliar to begin with. Everyone is somewhat familiar with catholicism, or christianity in general.

Jews do care about art, but spreading the word of their religion is not a part of judaism. Books and art on judaism is made for jews, and rarely those outside.

I like literature and 4chan is fun, simple as that.
I was an atheist as a precocious pubescent boy but returned to Christianity after being convinced of the beauty and reality of faith. I've gone through a few changes in my exact theological views but my belief in the existence of God, demons, the efficacy of prayer, etc. has only grown stronger through my observations of the world around me.

>Why are there so many Christians on /lit/?
The bible is not just divinely inspired truth, it's also the greatest work of literature.

>I'm honestly curious as to what attracts you to this board, on this site, of all places.
This board used to be good. And this site is probably the best place for discussion. Anonymity is essential, otherwise brainlets form bad arguments with assumptions and attacks. It also lets people say what they really think without having their name, or any name, attached to it.

>Also, how did you become Christian?
I was born Catholic, raised Catholic, then fell away from the church like so many do after Confirmation (around age 13). I found my faith again by starting with the greeks.

Christianity in and of itself is fine and worthy of discussion but 4chan Christians are often psueds of the highest order (no offense to those who aren't, but you guys need to call out these people). They appropriate the aesthetics and vocabulary of (what they think) arch-conservative christians are like in order to add a veneer of intellectuality to their innate contrarianism and desire to be edgy. The vast majority of them don't even attend church regularly nor do they practice christian virtues in their daily lives. Instead, they are typical reactionary dipshits who rant about the destruction of 'muh western gulture' while neither actually understanding that culture nor doing anything to preserve it apart from shitpost online and go to MAGA rallies.

Pic is very much related.

Raised Catholic, didn't especially believe until finding a couple good teachers in catholic high school that laid out the aristotelian metaphysics well, (didn't teach it perfectly, but I could steelman). Did philosophy minor in college, but neither teachers nor students were exactly brilliant, and found Feser around then for some pretty firm basis. Still have problems making my religion more than an intellectual belief, though.
What attracts me to /lit/? There's precious few places with this breadth where Christianity gets discussed honestly. Plus better taste in books than /r/books or /r/literature, and I don't especially mind the shitposting.
>>13428111
(Proddie detected) because people aren't just minds, we need sacramental signs for religion, and because that faith inspires prayer and going to church.

>> No.13428491

Because if one is spiritually inclined, as many on lit are, Christianity offers the best facilities. It's much harder to be e.g. Buddhist.

>> No.13428510

>>13427365
This is probably true. Catholics lack faith so they have to come up with pseudo-logical, philosophical justifications as they lay awake at night. As a protestant I only need one book, and it's more appropriately discussed over at /his/. I still think religion needs its own board though, rather then being a sideshow on /his/, and sometimes /lit/, /pol/ and /x/.

4chan is religious (e.g. /lit/ being Catholic, /jp/ being a mix of Shinto, Buddhism and Taoism, etc.) and Reddit is the neck-beard fedora. Notice how there are those "former 4channers" that currently browse that site and Twitter, and are absolute cuckolds that wank to BLACKED porn.

As a Catholic I'm attracted to the unfiltered view of western civilization that comes in so many different varieties on /lit/. I love being able to express my Catholicism and get yelled at by an angry Buddhist, and the ability to be able to engage so many worldviews here outside the obviously stupid and doomed to fail liberal progressivism. I became Catholic after realizing my nondenominational protestant church had a whole lot of nothing to back it up - Catholicism has the courage to state that you need both faith AND reason. Neither extreme is the ideal - you'll notice proddies who've never read a book outside the Bible fare badly here.

It's a reaction to the degeneracy that is happening in real life in the Western world, I'd say. Same reason why classical authors gained some traction in the last 5 or so years after most men on the periphery of society became disillusioned with the asphyxiating, self-destructive aspects of the contemporary left.

Christianity offers too much baggage though (e.g. dogma). I don't understand how reasonable people can accept some of the most outrageous claims just because it's dogma held by a certain church or sect.
