It’s mostly about miscommunication, searching for an escape of inner pain through various “entertainments”, and depressing father/son relationships. The writing style can be pretty spastic at times but it’s a great book and worth reading.

Also the inability to communicate theme is sort of mirrored as the book is an obtrusive mess and the film entitled 'Infinite Jest' inside of the story is also an obtrusive mess of avant-garde shit but the punchline of the book is that all the creator ever wanted to do was entertain.
