Oof. I honestly feel sorry for women. The point used to be to marry a man while they're young and pretty who would be obliged to be with them even when their looks rapidly deteriorate. not really. a lot of women give themselves body mind and soul to a bf only for him to use her for a few years and then dump her, thinking he can do better or he wants to be free to go "find himself' and party it up in the bachelor lifestyle. same with the girl, she can dump guys to chase a better option that's out of her league and end up burned. after a string of these both the men and women end up single at 30+, used up, guy is balding girl is wrinkled, but they still won't settle for each other.

the dating situation is caused by modern viewpoints of hyper-competition and the illusion of endless choice in the market. both genders blame the other, though, and that's why it is only getting worse.

multiple books have been written about guys/girls who just can't man/woman up and settle with someone, and end up burned for it. thousand cranes by kawabata, for example. tl;dr guy has a qt girl interested in him. he chases other tail or just sits with his thumb up his ass until the qt girl leaves for good with a permanent exit.
