When does it gets good?

>> No.13394908

The second page

>> No.13394953

>>13394892
It gets more coherent around page 200, but for real bruv, read Pinecone instead.

>> No.13394955

It doesn't.

>> No.13394960

>>13394892

everything comes together 700 pages in

>> No.13394964

I dropped one year ago and I don't know if I'm going to retake it.

>> No.13395048

surly at the MEME propagating this book's not being good until so and so pages in....- it is a GOOD BOOK - from the beginning!

>> No.13395051

>>13394892
On the third to fourth read, depending on how much attention you're paying.

>> No.13395067

I'm only 30 pages in but I enjoyed the chapter about the guy that shuts himself in his room for a week and smokes over an ounce of weed a day

When they play the geopolitics tennis balls game that chapter fucking slaps

>> No.13395276

>>13395067
Got about 100 pages but dropped it I remember this chapter stood out, does it get as good as this later on?

>> No.13395578

>>13395067
>>13395276

I'm 300ish pages in and I can tell you there are stuff like this later on, but is so few and far in between that is hard for me pick up the read.

The rest so far is:
> Dude tennis lmao
> Boy sure it's hard being an intelligent, athletic rich kid
> "I'm gonna copy some medical dictionary drugs decriptions, that will look really deeeeep man"

>> No.13395805

>>13395067
this
does he come back?
seems based

>> No.13395849

>>13394892
I started getting into it like 100+ pages in when they started doing the AA meetings.

>> No.13395858

>>13395067
that was the most based chapter

>> No.13395864

>>13395578
I don't think it was complaining about being a rich athletic kid, just trying to point out that being rich and athletic wouldn't necessarily make you happy. The book's trying to explain hedonistic adaptation and the goal-posts of trying to "live your best life"

That's why they talk about "the show" and the fact that you can get everything you want and still be unhappy.

Is this considered profound by the poorly read?

>> No.13395921

i want to read that book so bad

>> No.13395997

>>13395805
>>13395858

I'm the 300ish guy, so far nothing. I found he does come back at:
503-507 Nov. 8, nighttime At an NA meeting, Ken Erdedy gets a hug. (“The night after the … joint Interdependence Day picnic …”)

But dunno if it as good as that first chapter

What book has a better point? I think it's especially useful nowadays with how many people sit around envious of other people thinking that happiness is bought.

>> No.13396095

Keep reading. You sort of have to "get used to" the way he writes. I found reading it to be pretty addictive once I got deeper into it. Don't listen to some of the plebs in this thread. It's a great read.

>> No.13396096

Gonna rip this fucking thing every time it's brought up. This is an overly tripe and pandering drawn-out molestation of the english language. The only defenders of this pedantic garbage are lit majors that can only recite their professor's opinions, and high school stoners that want to look deep.
>it's boring on purpose

There is a reason foster wallace killed himself. He knew what a fucking joke he was. Let the man just rest for fuck's sake, stop dragging the poor bastard through the light.

>it's boring on purpose
It's not? It's a very deliberate piece of literature. I have no idea how you could call it "boring"

>horrible attachment to a personal hobby. if you'd like to see an actual metaphor in use, try moby dick. and that's a low fucking bar.
Yeah bro shame on him for writing about something he relates to. How dare he?

>classic 'im very deep' writing method
Considering the central thesis of the story is distracting yourself from your own mortality, yeah.

>been done before, and properly
I enjoy having something to reference while I read.

Literally the exact same points that were just refuted, bravo. Why is this garbage so popular all of a sudden, what tv show brought it up

>> No.13396110

>>13396107
It's a really good book, I have no idea how anyone could call it bad. It's easily top ten all time behind Catch-22 and Lolita.
