1) This is pretty atypical, and I think it will probably hurt the Democrats. I’m only speculating, but I imagine it has to do with the Democratic Party’s failure in the last presidential election and consequent “existential” crisis. Of course they don’t really seem to have learned anything or to have changed, and a milquetoast candidate will probably be selected with the assistance of the DNC and major donors.

2) We have winner-take-all voting system, where the winner of elections is determined by whoever wins the plurality of votes. I think it would require a constitutional amendment to change this, which would be prohibitively hard to get through, even though some politicians and legal scholars have suggested it

I’m really pleased by how well Bernie has managed to influence the Democratic Party.

Will they still fail to nominate Bernie in favor of some boring corporate Democrat and still lose to Trump? Yes

Will the Democrats still be a tone deaf as ever to how the average American feels? Yes

Will the typical corporate Dem still fall to his knees to fellate corporate donors? Yes.

But Bernie’s influence is still being felt, and I dare say some of the questions on M4All, student loans, etc. wouldn’t even be asked this election if not for the fact that he’s still extraordinarily popular, and is arguably one of the only truly likes politicians left in the Democratic Party.

Look, all keeping students in heavy debt does is stunt economic growth while turning Americans further down the path of anti-intellectualism. We should have never cut the funding to higher education in the first place from having student's cover 20% of tuition to covering 80 in public universities, especially when the cost of making them free is less than the INCREASE Trump gave to our military budget. If anything, we owe a substantial amount of these student's the money just on a moral level for letting them be extorted. Immigration is the single largest issue. Deporting all illegals and visa workers and indefinitely halting all future immigration would help American workers more than any other single policy and its effect stretches further than wages.
It would increase wages more than any other policy, lower the cost of housing even tank it in cities that need it the most such as NYC, the lower pool of labor would encourage companies to train workers themselves instead of relying on college or trade schools, employers would be encouraged to lower the requirements for jobs, employers would have to treat their employees better, the higher wages and much easier time of being middle class would decrease drug addiction and decrease single parent families, etc etc.
Most big cities and metropolitan areas would end up with a $15+ minimum wage without the government having to directly enforce it, that $15+ minimum wage would be due to supply and demand.
Would corporate cock suckers and companies complain about having to pay $15+ due to supply and demand? Of course! I bet they get mad when some leftist says there should be a cap on profit, very hypocritical!
>but muh labor shortage
There is no labor shortage, that is all corporate propaganda to keep the gates open. It is in businesses and the college system's best financial interest to say there is a shortage even if there isn't. The workforce participation rate is 2% lower than it was 10 years ago under Obama. There are millions of people not counted in the unemployment number that should be. The unemployment number is pretty much useless, what matters is wages and the number of people without a job that want one or would be willing to take one if offered enough.
>but there are millions of unfilled jobs
If you care about pay then you should not want all jobs to be filled, all jobs being filled = lower wages. You should want as many open jobs as possible so there is more competition that benefits workers

To retain one's virtues in such a world is to demonstrate greater strength than in a world where everything was peaceful. And while we'd prefer the latter, we've been given the former, and must navigate it wisely.

Yeah, but that isn't fair either. I'm not totally anti-socialist, but if you're going to spread out risk then you have to disqualify or control certain behaviours. Homeless and mentally ill people are special cases, but otherwise people who are obese, smokers, murderers/gang bangers, etc., should be limited in the type and amount of tax-funded care they can receive. Providing subsidized safety-nets for such behaviours is inefficient and only ensures we get more of said behaviour.

It's also unfair because genetically divergent populations have different predispositions to disease. Why should one population have to pay for the higher disease rates in another?

thing is that by the time you divorce him, you're left in your 30s and it might be hard to get another guy. i want to keep a husband for general partner purposes.

but no really. is love yes/no or can it grow over time? was every woman in an arranged/economic marriage always miserable? did everyone just have affairs all the time? out of literature it seems like cheating was more common than not and most wives and husbands detested each other.

>He's not unattractive, and he's pretty qt
Well, that's always a plus! I've got a qt as well.

>Historically marriages were for economic convenience.
Correct, and I applaud you for your knowledge of such things. If you don't mind, though, I must insist that having affection for your partner is a must.

For example, my mother married my father (lawyer) for the money, she told me herself last year after I got a few drinks in her. And after the first two years of marriage, they hated each other. They stuck together, hating each other and subsequently their lives, for the next 19 years, only splitting up when I graduated college and moved out.

My mother then, 2 years post-divorce, married another wealthy man, an engineer. They've been together for 10 years and are still as happy as the day they got married, and my mother (during that same drinking session) burst into tears about "how happy he made her" and "how much better life is now". The difference is that Mom actually loved this man, and wasn't just using him for his money....I try not to look down on her for this admission, but I must admit it's hard not to.

You seem pretty on top of things, but I have to stress how important being happy with your partner is. I would hate for anyone to end up like my mother or father....extremely unhappy and feeding on their hatred towards each other, only bound by convenience. It honestly seems like a hell onto itself.

If you think he's handsome, going to be successful, and will provide financial and geopolitical stability then that is 100% desirable...but you to ensure that you will be *happy* with him. History is littered with domestic tragedies like my mother and father, and it would pain me if I knew you married a man you grew to hate. It's a very emotionally painful and deading lifestyle, you must be sure you can love this man.

Polite sage, as I'm not contributing to the thread desu.

I see. I'm just trying to make a decision I won't regret. That's a good answer. Of course the ideal is wealthy, who you also like. Marrying just for money would be pretty terrible.

Yeah but they'll also give driver's licenses to any idiot. Haven't you heard the recent news that some regions are granting licenses to illegals? Despite the license hurdle, that's going to be a far more lethal policy than easy access to legal guns (legal guns are responsible for a tiny proportion of actual homocides, sometimes suicides are added to make things scarier).

not to mention most illegals just drive without the license at all. cars need far, far more regulation. every day there's a dozen crashes in my city alone from retards behind the wheel. they need to be more restrictive in car sales and car licensing.

Trump won't win again, we've reached a critical mass of PoC and anti-immigration rhetoric usually provokes a lef-wing backlash against the downright meanness of it all. Besides, illegal immigration has been worse under him than Obama, because his rhetoric radicalized government employees and judges into thinking Our Values were under attack so they'd do anything humanly possible to prevent deportations from happening.
