DFW was an author who earned the admiration of Zadie Smith, a woman of color. Does that suddenly mean nothing after finding out all of the things DFW did? How do you rationalize DFW's appeal to women of color with the things DFW did to women? Both of those things will always exist. DFW wrote literature that spoke to women and he also did bad things to women.

Also, what about before an artist does something bad? Michael Jackson wasn't raping little kids when he was a kid. Does that mean it's okay to listen to the Jackson Five but not MJ's solo work? Is it okay to watch Rosemary's Baby because Polansky directed it before he raped someone, but not The Pianist because he directed it after he raped someone?

I don't think we get to pick and choose, we can only accept great art when it comes to us.

and before you start with the "hurr MJ is innocent" shtick keep in mind the only people denying MJ did all those things are /pol/fags because of that one song where he used a slur against Jews, his living family, and people using the idea of MJ's innocence as a defense mechanism so they don't have to deal with the fact that they enjoy a pedophile's work
