Probably eastern European cities/ the Baltics, currently, but various hideouts in the former British colonies exist. Unfortunately, as has always been the case, no one here will ever be cool or important enough to know about the real lit places until it's too late. Or, if you do, it'll be inaccessible for some other reason like coming from a shit family and having no status or money.

Even then, there isn't an expat community that would take you in among these places, so we might as well stop asking this silly question.

Maybe places like Edinburgh or some remote British villages i.e. the countryside could inspire you as well, depends on what you want to write really, certainly you won't write the next Crime and Punishment there because a particular lifestyle is needed and similar conditions as well, not sure if it's worth it, writing comfy non PC novels is good enough IMO.

This land of such dear souls, this dear dear land,
Dear for her reputation through the world,
Is now leased out, I die pronouncing it,
Like to a tenement or pelting farm:
England, bound in with the triumphant sea
Whose rocky shore beats back the envious siege
Of watery Neptune, is now bound in with shame,
With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds:
That England, that was wont to conquer others,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.

Hello, its the anon you originally replied to. You take advantage of the /lit/ life by not being self aware that you're doing it. Don't try to be a writer in Manhattan, just write while you're in Manhattan. Just like every gallery space in Bushwick is filled with half-baked bullshit "art" from Pratt students and people in the "scene," literature works the same way. Don't write at a bar to be the guy who writes at the bar, don't fall into the image. If you catch yourself thinking of writing a screenplay, slap yourself hard and don't think that again.

Depends what you want. I live in London, it’s extremely busy at all times, but public transport is great and relatively cheap, so it’s easy to get anywhere fast. And fairly easy to get to more ‘natural’ places too like massive wooded parks. Or just go people watching. It’s a place with many nooks and crannies because it has such a ling history and if you have the time and money you can get a lot of different experiences in one place, hipster shit in the north/east, more bookstores than you have time to see, cabarets, sex clubs, chinese tripe on a stick, hidden cafes, squats housing homeless people, raves, million dollar apartments, etc.

I fortunately have a chance to see a lot of place because I work in filmmaking, but I can imagine a /lit/ lifestyle being fairly easy to find here, as there’s something for everyone, with the important caveat: if you can afford it.

Dublin: Like a mediocre english town with more pubs and stag/hen parties everywhere.
Milan & Florence.
All the american cities. (This is more to do with their size than their culture. I imagine a small university city could be nice, but most of the major cities feel vacuous)

Point out how damaging mass immigration of unskilled uneducated lower class people is, and immediately get shot down as "racist" "pol" "u mad" and whatever other buzzwords you use to prop up that mental barrier that prevents you from any sort of critical thought that might challenge your indoctrinated neoliberal worldview

The fact is that, you are still mad and you completely missed the sarcasm in that person's post. Such an idiotic mistake only serves to make you appear dogmatic, and your views moronic.
You would be better suited for Reddit, I think, they often explicitly label their posts as being sarcastic because so many of them share this predilection you have towards being unreasonable mad when you see certain words or phrases, such a rage causing them to lose sight of any and all context.

You and other anon itt are just being pussies. I've lived in the Paris surburbs with plenty of immigrants my whole life. Some areas are to be avoided (and even then it's chickenshit compared to the bad areas of any non-Western European country) but overall it's not such a big deal. The real problem with Paris is that it's too narrow, too crowded and too expensive. More green places would also be nice.
None of that is caused by immigration (even the crowded part, tourism and centralization accounts for it well enough), if anything it would tend to make rent cheaper.

Also anyone claiming the city is not good enough should live sentenced to lifetime in the suburbs (or any place actually shitty) just to see what urban dreariness really is like.

If you want a full-white experience why even bother going to a major city ? Just settle for a middle-size or small town.

High society in the 19th century was highly degenerate and frankly stupid overall. Read some Saki, it will shake a bit of that self-seriousness.

It's also hilarious that you imagine the average immigrant as a fundamentalist when the main target of fundamentalist infection are second-generation kids raised by mostly thankful immigrants and then indoctrinated by imams on Saudi payroll. The root of the problem is literally the higher classes (the French elites who left workers to their own devices and their clients the Saudi elites).

Because nobody wants to live there obviously. The European and American cities are sought after because they're still for now the places where interesting stuff happens, though that will probably change.
Most of those "major" cities in other continents are not interational hubs, just massively populated and/or under an inquisitive governments that aren't too amenable to foreigners (or to anyone else really).
Your point has little to do with my post anyway. I was stating how people are making a mountain of what is barely an issue in daily life.

>>13318510
No city has any culture if you're a sheltered pussy unwilling to make effort to engage with it. Do you think in the glorious 1920s the city was cleaner and less dangerous ? It was just cheaper and not eaten up by fashion venues and shops for our wealthy foreigner overlords, that's all. And in that time you wouldd have complained about lower-class scum getting drunk on absinthe, and perhaps brooded over the mingling of the Germanic and Saxon races with the French, or God knows whatever nonsense was fashionable at the time for the uninspired, the scared and the resentful.

In my experience the immigrants past age 20 are actually nicer and more relaxed than the natives (in Paris again, not talking abotu the countryside). Their food is also better for the same price unless you can afford to pay 50+ dollars a meal. You post like you're getting too much of your life and thinking from the internet honestly (and not even the good parts of the internet).

And again your non-argument misses the real problem. You complain about immigrants (lower-class people who live and work there) when the problem comes from our government and business being subservient to the wealthy assholes who only come once in a while to buy a historic building or a diamond necklace.

>culture doesn't mean 'high culture"

In literature it does, in the defining sense. It depends on extended leisure time where indoor quiet and solitude are easily obtainable at the slightest movement of the will, as a matter of daily course, and totally without regard to whether considered a right or a privilege, something earned or something stolen, is a luxury the affordability of which is as highly conditioned by background as by aptitude. It is also one of finest in life, especially for the 2nd half of life, whatever you do to get there with your senses intact, and comfortably installed at sufficient remove from poverty and strife.

You guys have me fucked up. You're not even considering the literary tradition of various places or examining the cultural and environmental factors that produced such history and might be favorable now. You're looking at places that you think might be cool based on your shitty social demographic.
