is it? how are they wrong? is listening to audible while driving to GameStop the same as reading and concentrating on a hardback or kindle? should they kill themselves?

Depends on the book. I'm listening to Capital as an audiobook and am getting it much better than I think I would reading it.
Also the audiobook for pic related is high quality

who cares, if you understand the book then do whatever

I think audiobooks are fine if you need something to distract yourself from some kind of menial task or are going to be stuck for a long period of time in a location where it isn't possible to read a physical book.
I don't think they can replace actually reading a book/kindle, and there really isn't any reason to bother with them unless you're in either of the previously mentioned situations.

Do you really think it's that different that it's not worth it? I listen to audiobooks and I've made it through at least four this year that I wouldn't have been able to read because I play it in my car and at the boring parts of work.

People on here hate audiobooks but I think they just want to believe they are inferior so they can justify reading to themselves. I don’t listen to audiobooks but that’s only because I listen to podcasts

Depends on what you want. Do you want to challenge yourself with anachronistic words of bygone eras and force your eyes and mind to absorb them? Or do you want to be casually entertained by a story?

Audiobooks are the equivalent of being read to as a child.

Listening to a book is not reading a book, it is consuming a book
Listening to an album isn’t the same as attending a concert. There’s no shame in it, it’s just a different medium.

Or by a poet
Not to belittle parents reading to their children

>> No.13240544

I did not belittle anyone or anything, if you read that, it was your own disingenuous reading of my comment.

I didn’t imply, or mean to imply this about you.
To say “not to belittle” I was acknowledging your post, trying to elevate your answer. Parents are just as good as poets. I didn’t want you or anyone else to misunderstand me for just saying “or by poets”. I just wanted to add the long history of the spoken word.
Pardon.

Hearing literature recited is actually much more principled and patrician than reading. The greatest stories in history were all recited (Homer as an example). If you consider the Iliad and the Odyssey to be literature, but think audiobooks "don't count", you simply have to admit the fact that you have inconsistent values.
