I don't have any specific books, but if you look at people through a lens of compassion and sympathy, rather than contempt, you will probably find a lot more sympathy for God. There is not reason to hate existence; after all, you can end it any time you like. To keep living shows that you're curious enough to keep learning about it, even if you learn unpleasant things.

everyone respects something whether they know it or not, you're either respecting god or one of his underlings or underthings, not a tough choice really, plus you don't actually know if god is the direct cause of the sources of your complaints, there are subcreations out there as im sure you found out while drawing with crayons as a toddler, and the proximate creator of one or several of the contents of your discontent - the better target of your strike - is going unaimed at and unsearched for and maybe even unnoticed as you stare past its shape with ire to god, and there's more than even a chance (i'd guess a probably probability) that like ourselves, who are the makers of the sources of our very closest disagreements-with, he or it could hiddenly openly be the present place or path of your worship and of your respect.

yeah, no. A lot of the really high-speed evil happens due to people and then there's naturally ocurring mayhem of disease and disaster that gets called 'acts of god'. So a lot of nasty shit could be avoided by people not being jerks, the rest we can't avoid and blaming a god for them is powerlessness in the extreme.

Why dont you ask God to do that in prayer? Its shorter, less time-consuming and most importantly more effective. You can combine that with spiritual readings. Try also to fast on bread and water on a wednesday and friday. Even if its for one week. Fasting will especially help you if you are saturated with other stuff like alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, excess and unhealthy eating.

While you pray or fast you can think about Jesus' life. Try the rosary.

Ill tell you from my experience that the most frustrating thing is just how hard it is to self-evaluate.

You dont know how bad you are in certain things and you dont know how good you are in others. You dont even know how good it feels to receive grace and when you are in a bad state you might not even realize how desolate you truly are. The biggest problem by far is you truly dont know how misaligned your beliefs might be. Prayer and fasting tends to clear out what Zizek might call ideology but what others might call worldliness. Everybody thinks they have near total control over yourselves but once you pray and fast you will realize the opposite. What you do and think forms your spiritual essence (including your very thought process that recognizes your own state) in a very way that eating healthy food or gorging on mcdonalds affects your body

this is what Jesus calls the spirit of truth. After rejecting impulses and forces that we indulge in to make ourselves comfortable in our sin, our conscience is somewhat more aware of our spiritual state. You can only know this through prayer and fasting. However when you focus on the word of God, you're able to understand that there's no actual requirement to do what YOU decide is right, but to do what God has told you to do whether you understand it completely or not.

Firstly, God granted us free will. That is why there is suffering; people who have the will to do evil, can. If you would prefer to sacrifice freedom for security, you are weak, and that would explain why you hate your own existence. Accept that there is evil in the world, and if possible, try to counter it by doing some good. If you can't understand that then you may continue your useless self-hatred and your hatred of God and the Universe. That said, I'm happy to report that blasphemy against God and Christ is forgivable.

I don't know what you mean by 'God wants to bro out with the Devil', however I do believe that God encourages people to do good. I'm still loose on the concept of Satan, though have been coming around to the idea. Every now and then, people tend to get notions. Little thoughts that pop to mind, they can even be surprising. Some thoughts are bad; "there's only a line dividing me and that oncoming vehicle, I could turn the wheel and there'd be a devastating head-on collision." "The mere sight of this guy angers me; he's also old, small, and clearly a lot weaker than me; I could kill him with my bare hands right now." "What a nice ass, and my hand is inches away..."

Generally I find that thoughts come so quickly that they're essentially concepts. It's not like I'm standing there for a couple seconds as a sentence runs through my mind. Anyhow, these thoughts of evil that seemingly come from nowhere, these spontaneous thoughts, I suspect they come from Satan or 'demons' or something of that nature. Meanwhile, those moments of revelation, of inspiration, as well as that voice in the back of your mind that says "you're considering doing/saying something that is very likely to not go well, you shouldn't do/say it", I believe that's God. People are very much capable of ignoring it of course, which is our free will at play.

People are capable of having our own thoughts, naturally, and I think that it tends to be more analytical and logical. I need to go pick up groceries, there could be some specials going on that I could take advantage of, though before I actually start shopping I need to withdraw money from the ATM since my wallet is presently empty save for the first $20 bill that I ever made from my books which will be 2 years old in less than 3 weeks. These thoughts don't seem to me to be from either God or Satan, they're just simple thoughts that are required to keep me alive and functioning as a human being. Now, if I go and see a small item that I could put in my pocket to steal, that's Satan. I stole one item, I was a kid, it was grape Hubbabubba gum that my mum wouldn't buy me, she saw me with it after we left and got extremely angry at me, and she was a feminist so believe me there was a long of anger in that woman. I haven't stolen since, to my recollection, and that was over 20 years ago I'm pretty sure, so notions to steal are not from my own mind; I don't want to steal anything and I never even give consideration to doing so, ever.

So, what would be a Godly thought? Well, sometimes I see an article of clothing that's nice, or a face/body that I like, and the thought flickers to mind to "give a compliment." When that happens, I almost always do so, and thus far except on one singular occasion it resulted in a pleasant smile and earnest thanks, even some surprised but pleased laughter, and thank God for that. I love it when that happens.

Very interesting post. The introspection of prayer does seem to be very valuable and useful, as is the Christian modesty of knowing that we're all sinners because we all fall short to God's standard; his Son. None of us are perfect, even children are capable of being evil little demons (and no, they don't have to be 'taught' that), in fact to my understanding the age group most likely to enact violence is a 2 year old. Now, that violence may not be particularly dangerous, not like the violence of a grown man, but violence none the less. I digress, but to understand the evils that we are ALL capable of, that are in our physical capacity to enact, it allows us to better avoid it and to have the humility to look at other sinners and know that you could potentially be capable of doing the things they do, it allows you to empathize, and be grateful of the wisdom that God has bestowed upon you.

I could be a cold-blooded murderer. What's more, I know precisely whom I have the capacity to murder, how I'd do it, and what I would do after it. I know this because he's my room mate and has been so for over 2 years now. A truly evil, vile little leftist, and what's worse, he's almost 60. He's been evil and vile for a VERY long time and likely will not change. A devout atheist, a 'Liberal' as he says but really not in the classical sense, a vehement liar even when it doesn't stand to benefit him, a thief, and an absolute hedonist. He also happens to be a racist (has referred to snow-shoveling as 'nigger-work' on more than one occasion) and a homophobe (called me faggot on several occasions and not at all in a joking or loving way, like when I say Milo Yiannopoulos is my favourite faggot).

He loves to make lots of loud noise to bother people and for a long time he would wake me up at 3-6AM with a stomp outside my door or by slamming his own. I began confronting him about it, even recorded some of the confrontations secretly (though he is aware of them, as is the Police), and in one of them he said the next time I talk to him I'll "get a punch in the head." I would love... love... absolutely love... if he had the guts to do that. Seriously. I would give myself over to the evil desires within me and I'd pound him into the dirt, he's almost half a foot shorter than me, over 50 pounds lighter than me, far less muscle mass, and twice my age... I would murder him, I would let Satan take me in that moment, and that is a scary thought. It would make the world a better place to remove him from it, it TRULY would, and for MANY people... but murder is evil none the less and so thankfully even though the temptation has been oh so strong on so many occasions, God has granted me the will to resist. He will be gone before long anyways, I think he has less than 9 years left.

The flood of the Old Testament. Yes, God is capable of destructive behavior. God also instructed Abraham to kill Isaac, his one begotten son whom was a miracle onto he and his wife, Sarah's, life. They were of very advanced age when he was born, but God instructs Abraham to sacrifice him. He's willing, and takes him away to be sacrifived, pretty sure on a mountain, but because God sees that he's willing He tells Abraham that he doesn't have to. God had also told Abraham before all this that he had to get out of his father's tent and get out into the world where he witnessed starvation and I think war as well if I'm not mistaken, which I might be.

So yeah, God can lead us to difficult circumstances, but life itself is inherently difficult and with suffering so sometimes people are shown things that can harden and strengthen them. Trying to come up with more examples of God being destructive but not much is coming to me, still learning of the Biblical texts. Well, God sacrifices his own son, Jesus, so there's that. God would have known of Jesus' ultimate fate, of being betrayed by Judas, arrested, tortured, and ultimtely put to death by a very slow and painful means; crucifixion. Brutal stuff, but sadly necessary.

Heaven is a non physical place, its existence is not confirmed, and perhaps it is a state of equanimity, or maybe the Gnostics were right about the afterlife?
You cannot discern what is bad without knowing what is good. The more "bad" a thing is the less "good" it is, and vice versa. Good and Bad are two poles of a continuim, and they arise simultaneuosly. Eastern mystic/religious/philosophical texts have said this for thousands of years. Plato explains it too.

You don't need a book for that. You just need to stop being an edgy teen. You'll get over these fruitless and pointless thoughts in time. Only an idle, underutilized mind would bother with such humbuggery. You ought to be more occupied and involved with a task, perhaps even a job., perhaps one of your own invention.

Both of my parents were abusive, not just the overbearing mother but completely manipulative along with a psychopathic, all-devouring father. They even 'gaslighted' me my whole childhood.
I'm happy, and although I don't have kids yet I have a dog who I have been able to train in a proper authoritative and caring manner.
I am religious (not Christian).

Ah yes, I need to learn more of that. Apparently people in one or the other had come to where Abraham had been staying and told them to bring him out so that they can 'know him', which is Biblical-speak for sexual relations. So they wanted to have sex with him, gay sex, and so God punished them. I can kinda understand it if it was, like, a mob of gays hoping to rape an old man. That's fucked up, and if rape groups are free to roam the streets, who knows what the rest of the populous are up to. Hey who knows, maybe HIV/aids was brought about by God to punish the immorality of the gay community? Going around having wild sex, known to be highly promiscuous and jumping from partner to partner, some are even so deranged that they're 'bug chasers' meaning they actively seek out catching/spreading sex-related infections/diseases.

I don't much like the concept, in fact I myself am bisexual; I find some effeminate males (twinks/sissies) and traps to be hot, and traps are biological males, meaning I as a male finding them sometimes hot is a homosexual attraction. Still, I control my hedonistic desires and so I only seek relations with women, in fact I hope the next woman I lay with ends up being the last; I want to have a family. Anyhow, just thinking out loud. The mere THOUGHT that God might have had something to do with HIV/AIDS will make some people completely put-off by Christianity, and well, that's their right. They can have whatever religious views they want. I'm just thinking out loud.

You shouldn't spend your time hating something that doesn't exist. Experience, enabled by your own existence, is ultimately the only thing worthwhile. Try to build a life you want to live, cultivate relationships, eat right, exercise regularly, work towards goals.

the real question atheists should be asking is if god can't be proven and you need to have faith then isn't faith the only thing that mattered? atheists will never ever convert people who believe in god, that's why it's declining along with religion. religion directed the god fearing to good, atheists only harm religion and not god.

reading the bible made me like christianity less because it makes the reeligion seem like a weird cult that believes in crazy dumb shit
talking to christian ministers made me like it more though
i'd rather hear a faith explained by one of its members than by its holy text
and people who have devoted their lives to their faith are far better to talk to about it than larpers who use it to feel smugly superior

God doesn't allow evil, he isn't antithetical to it. Evil simply happens, because it always will. To experience evil and remain unchanged in faith is to truly love God. Blaming God for letting evil happen is where the issue lies.

I don't know, my sense of humour took a weird turn at the time, 'you feel me, dawg' is so far from how I typically communicate with people that I found it to be a funny thought so I typed it. Still, I stand by my view that God and Jesus are not the same entity, and Jesus doesn't seem to ever suggest such in the New Testament, at least from my readings thus far. Son of God, he also calls himself the Son of Man several times, refers to God as his father, but doesn't seem to call himself God.

Though that said, I wonder, does it truly go from binary to trinity? Probably not. Still, I thought it made sense.
