When does Ulysses get good? I'm three chapters in and it's still boring.
I liked Joyces other works but Ulysses just doesn't get me.

It's already good. Proteus is one of the best chapters in the book, and one of the greatest things ever written. The first page of Proteus, with Dedalus walking along sandymount strand and contemplating the protean nature of words, is absolutely sublime.

The first three chapters are a very different tone from the rest of the work. In fact, it even changes to a different section after (which you could call Bloom’s section, which takes up most of the book). Although if you don’t like it a few chapters into the new section you should just give it up.
