essentially mad scientist trope looking to fill the hole that men typically try to fill, career doesnt work out he gets married, wife has a birthmark on her face, he says its ugly, she gets stockholm syndrome, she dies

Judging only by the fact that I've read Amontillado years ago, and found out about the Birthmark through this thread, take a grain of salt with what I say.

You could talk about the similarites between how both secondary characters in the stories die after becoming "trapped" with the main character, and discuss/analyze the differences in how this happened/the context of the story.

After looking at this for like 3 seconds I think I get it

So in both cases the protagonist is driven by an irrational greed, which ends up destroying any chance he has at enjoying himself. In Amontillado it's literally fatal.

no pretty much spot on, atleast something I can start this midget paper with
yea with "birthmark" he loses career/beautiful woman(trophy) because he poisons her trying to de-birthmark her face

Lol
The slightly interesting thing too is that it isn't just that the greed bothers them, but that it actually destroys all their pleasure before they even fall victim to circumstance
