>Wittgenstein was an engineer
>Popper was a psychologist
>Heidegger was a theologian
>Adorno was a sociologist
>Russell was a mathematician
>Kant was an ugly astronomer
>Nietzsche was a philologist
>Schmitt was a jurist

It seems like all the major philosophers weren't actually philosophers. So if you want to make it big in philosophy, you should study anything other than philosophy, it seems.

It seems like all the major engineers, psychologists, theologians, sociologists, mathematicians, astronomers, philologists and jurists weren't actually engineers, psychologists, theologians, sociologists, mathematicians, astronomers, philologists or jurists. So if you want to make it big in engineering, psychology, theology, sociology, mathematics, astronomy, philology, or law, you should study anything other than engineering, psychology, theology, sociology, mathematics, astronomy, philology, or law, it seems.

NO; THE CORRECT CONCLUSION IS THAT BEING A PHILOSOPHER IS NOT CONTINGENT ON ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS, NOR ON FORMAL EDUCATION, NOR ON LEVEL OF ERUDITION, BUT, RATHER, ON ONE'S INHERENT SAPIENT CAPABILITY.

PHILOSOPHY IS NOT A PROFESSION, BUT, RATHER, AN OCCUPATION OF THE SOUL.

THE PHILOSOPHER IS BORN, NOT MADE.

At least Nietzsche and Kant referred to themselves as philosophers and that what they were doing was philosophy. Wittgenstein was ambivalent about his position but he did hold the title of "Professor of Philosophy" at Cambridge.

Also why the fuck are you including Schmitt and Popper in that list and not Hegel, Schopenhauer, and Kierkegaard?

The correct conclusion is that participation within the cultural hegemony of the ivory tower is contingent on material wealth.
The rich have the idle time to spend on philosophy, but philosophy won't make you rich. You also can't afford to make the necessary interpersonal and professional connections to be a professionally successful philosopher if you don't have the means, such as another career or familiarity with the academy through some other profession.

How about the fact that
>philosopher
wasn't a reasonable job to take up a hundred years ago (nor today, in the working class). Of course people had a another training.

Some smart people are also capable of writing and so they are deemed philosophers, because maybe being a psychologists only affects a few hundred years in your life, while your book can be read but hundreds of thousands.
