Man, the phrase "crazy verbiage" popped into my head the other day when I was reading the Society of the Spectacle. I was like: where the fuck is that from? And then I realised it was Schopenhauer on Hegel.

The later edition of The Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason is practically unbearable in its altered form, I wish the original were around, his publisher said amending it to add all those salty digressions was stupid. At least The World as Will and Idea wasn't tampered with by Schopenhauer when he got older so his magnum opus was not marred by that except in the foreword and introduction and notes. Imagine writing a beautiful and lucid work of philosophy as a young man and then revising it when you're older just to insert a ton of irrelevant paragraphs of insulting Hegel placed obnoxiously throughout.
