How come philosophy students (academia) love to talk about speculative realism now so much, but /lit/ doesn't?

Nihil Unbound is edgy but okay. After Finitude is overrated but interesting. Realist Magic is hippie tripe. Alien Phenomenology is nerdy and lame. Guerilla Metaphysics is naive and stupid.

It's nothing I'm an expert on.
What I can say is that it's a now popular movement in philospophy academia which tries to get away from French ontologies of the world saying there are only relations and not things (as in ideals or more).

From looking at the summary of Harman's OOO, it looks like a dolled-up version of Stoic metaphysic (right down to the gunk). On an unrelated note, how do I get over my love affair with Kant? My mind's telling me "no" ... but my body — my body's telling me "yeah."

Very few /lit/ posters actually read theory and most literally don't understand the purpose of philosophy, believing it to be some kind of personal lifestyle choice more than anything.

>saying there are only relations and not things

Why do I get the feeling this is a rehash of a lesser known philosophy that came before?
