what happens on lit is that there are these staggered waves of young people learning about authors as they begin their literary meme journey. Some of these were at the time not obscure, but not something you would learn about in university, so the board functions like an incredibly retarded syllabus for people branching out beyond the typical academic perspective, but not really well read enough yet to just find their own material.
