I had heard good things from my friends, so I decided to give it a go. I need to stop trusting what normies say.

It's a unique concept, and fun for a readthrough around halloween every couple years.
It has about as much literary merit as Dragonology though.

Absolute cringe. Thought the gimmick would be fun. It's not, because half of it reads like some third rate academic boring everyone with meaningless shit, and the other half is edgy "descent into madness" stuff that was done far better by other writers. Plus the story never culminates into anything

Its literally fine.
What you should actually do is stop giving people on 4chan the benefit of the doubt when they call every single book out there dogshit.

It’s a decent horror story. If you go into genre fiction expecting high art then 99% of the time you are going to be disappointed.

The labryinth was great but it's the only thing that I actually remember about the book.

It's not absolutely horrible but it's pointless and doesn't even manage to be a good horror or mystery book.

Great in concept. Terrible in execution. It had a good sense of oppressive dread. Certainly not a masterpiece but I enjoyed quite a bit more than most horror I've read.
