Pop open any George RR Martin, or Frank Herbert, or Ken Follett, or Rowling.

This is your competition.

Why haven't you taken the capitalistpill and abandoned your aesthetic ideals about what a novel ought to be? Someone as smart as you could be very successful.

i hope one day to take everything ive abosrbed through 4chan to influence my writing and i can have a collection of lifes works to become a controversial writer in the 22nd century when im already dead

Because in the industries of the arts skill does not matter. It is solely about luck, being discovered by someone influential and having them publish your mediocre work. Be it music literature or visual arts; the most successful ones arent the best. They are the better ones who got discovered and also are broad enough for the masses and thus lacking depth.
When I write literature, compose music or create visual pieces it is only for me and my family. Getting discovered is my wild fantasy, like the perfect big tiddy goth gf, or godlike workout results, or absurd success in financial investments. I work towards it, but what can I expect but slighlty higher than mediocre results?

That's not art. What sort of artistic value would your 4chan posts have? None.

I'm working on my novel with a strong independent black gay female protagonist who fights the evil orange man from killing poor Mexican children with his farts.
Do you think this will sell?

You know, my Career isn't doing too bad. I'm not anywhere near where I can consider myself "successful", but Im making enough to live off of to continue to hone my craft. Going to be working on a blog next to use it to market my self published stuff. Maybe write something on the side to shop for an agent.

Because you're right OP. If Rowling, Martin, Meyers, and others can find success I'm sure I'll find some too.
