Have you read Good Old Neon? The entire point is that he felt like a pretentious liar and was hyperaware of it and trying to change but didn't know how, he couldn't move past it. He describes how he would try to explain it to other people but notice that he was doing it in the middle of the explanation, and it tore him apart. The guy fucking hated himself.
