May seem silly, but the ending really hit hard on me. Myshkin in all his innocence just gets fucked over by everyone and in the end, he is no longer a normal functioning human being and will live the rest of his life in a madhouse.

What happened to him to provoke this severe reaction?

Honestly I don't know why. It was just profoundly sad.

Still, being naive as he was he did no harm to others(or at least did not intend any). I don't see how just because he was childish everyone was justified to exploit him.

The pilate chapters really hit me hard for whatever reason, and the way the two plots came together at the end was incredible. I didn't weep but i'd say it was the closest i've gotten to crying while reading a novel.

It's not a question of justification. It could be one of the individuals ability to rationalize, sure, but really you're just gonna get dicked by life if you're an idiot.

The Brothers Karamazov

When (spoilers) backscratcher kid passes away, and Alyosha is talking to all the hooligans and telling them not to fight and to live happy lives. I don't even understand why but I was so overcome with emotion

Why are German language writers so good? I don’t know, and that book can’t answer. The author wrote it in French- ‘le soldat oblié’.

the incosolable dad who doesnt know what to do with himself at the funeral in light of the senseless tragedy that his boy is gone

even that doesn't compare to the final scene where the kid asks if everyone will really come back to life when Christ returns and Alyosha chuckles and replies that indeed it will be so
