I just want to test my insanity and make sure I’m not going insane or misjudging things. Is it just me, or has this board become the equivalent of a YouTube comments section? I used to be ashamed of being furtively addicted to this place but now I can hardly even browse it for that long because of how retarded about 99% of the posters are. Can anyone else confirm that it’s gotten a lot worse than it was 5 or 6 years ago, at the very least? There seem to be a lot of retarded teenagers here who genuinely don’t care about literature or reading. Now, there’s always been that subset here, but now that seems to be the majority, and not just in the summer or during school breaks, either. Not only that, but there’s a lot of annoying normalfags here, the equivalent of high-school jocks. I don’t know if it’s my memory playing tricks on me or what, but I genuinely remember a higher quality of discussion on this board...

/lit/ comes and goes like seasons. Feel like as recently as a month or two ago for a few days there was great discussion. All it does is reflect the effort of the community.

The board has doubled in population, but the problem is mainly phone posting. When people post from their phones, they are instinctively trying to say as little as possible to save time and irritation, so they simplify everything down to bite-sized meme concepts. They still want to participate in conversations though, so you get this weird liminal thing where they want to argue about a complex topic, enough to keep posting, but they don't want to put effort in, so they quickly descend into low-content tweet-like replies.

Most of the board is people phone posting like it's a chatroom or discord channel, just to pass the day. They are likely at work or school, taking a quick break to scroll through /lit/, find one thread that sorta relates to their interests, and reply "t. bad post" to someone who they disagree with enough to want to voice but it not enough to voice it with any content attached.

All gookmoot would have to do is make it visible when someone is posting from their phone, or ban phones altogether. The site's cancer would revert by at least 5 years if he did that, and there would be a mass exodus of reddit niggers who use their phones for everything.

I actually haven’t been on here for a year or more and just came back yesterday on a whim. The quality of the content has certainly gone down, I was genuinely surprised to see the amount of troll/joke threads that stayed up instead of being ignored. There had always been those threads I suppose but they had always been the minority and now they’re the majority. I was also surprised and disappointed to find that the nick land futurism general thing was still going strong I would’ve thought that’d be dead by now

In the past few years the mods of have really cracked down on the slightly off topic threads which acted as honey traps for nonsense. Those threads are no longer tolerated so the people that used to post nonsense in their containment threads have spread to the rest of the board.

Also those top 100 threads have attracted a lot of Reddit users over the years. They can be easily spotted by their cries of sexism or insistence on Charles Dickens being considered high brow.
