Which should I read first : Plato's Republic or Infinite Jest?

Plato's Infinite Republic

>> No.12424797

The Republic (and Greeks in general) put the rest of western lit in context. Lord of the Rings is a good example of something that would be read differently if you had read the republic first.

Plato. It's much shorter.

Start with euthyphro, apology, crito and phaedo, symposium and then republic.

>> No.12425170

just read Huck Finn instead

>> No.12425212

You won't be able to understand Republic unless you read infinite jest first.

You can pretty much just read a summary of Republic. a good portion of it is endless rambling to reach a simple conclusion.
I guess the reason people recommend it is because it's so easy to read, but honestly it's not very interesting.
