I don't even know if I'm right but here's what I thought.
The latin root points to something warm or hot. Maybe it has something to do with the fire in the sacrifices?
In Spanish it sounds like cauldron (caldera) or the stock in soups (caldo), so I kinda combined the two.
Remember the priests kill a lot of animals and they give the less touched remains to poor people, which will probably stew them.
Or maybe it's a pun related to the Christian representation of hell (a terribly hot place in people's mind) and how the highest ranking priest practiced a religion ordered by a literal demon/false God.
