>The apocalypse is finished, today it is the precession of the neutral, of forms of the neutral and of indifference. I will leave it to be considered whether there can be a romanticism, an aesthetic of the neutral therein. I don't think so -- all that remains, is the fascination for desertlike and indifferent forms, for the very operation of the system that annihilates us. Now, fascination (in contrast to seduction, which was attached to appearances, and to dialectical reason, which was attached to meaning) is a nihilistic passion par excellence, it is the passion proper to the mode of disappearance. We are fascinated by all forms of disappearance, of our disappearance. Melancholic and fascinated, such is our general situation in an era of involuntary transparency.
was baudrillard right?

holy fuck he was based, where did he write this?

>> No.12313639

certainly sounds right in a general sense but this sort of "ah, well" attitude is disappointing coming from a supposed intellect.

Is there anyone here who can reiterate what he said about Disneyland? I need it for a job application.

Disney land is a fake reality covering up that real reality doesn't exist. It is extremely cartoonized, square trees and all of that, no adult behaviour, but what is it really distorting? True reality is one big commercialized Disneyland and is in no way realer with all its shops, reality shows, social networks, superficial behaviour.

Maybe listen to the philosophize this episode. Think he covers Disneyland too.

It's a shame he died before social media, digitalization of information, and Amazon really picked up off the ground. He would have had so much to write about them and have a field day. So, who is the present day analog of Baudrillard?

In his final "book" Agony of Power he bellies the rise of an infantilized culture, decrying superheroes and alike, what came out a year after his death? Marvel's Iron Man.

He may not have a modern successor but his essence is crystallized in the works of Fischer, Gibson, Berardi

So I know Baudrillard isn't necessarily literal when he talks about simulations, and that what he's referring to is the loss of authenticity and the authenticity of perception, but I still struggle to wrap my head around it. What can I read to learn more about 'authenticity'? I know a lot of other philosophers are concerned with this notion, and I fear I dived too quickly into the deep-end with Baudrillard.

9/11 was the truly the last "event" which causes one to wonder what could possibly happen that would shape the world (outside of more war) that would have such a visceral impact as that.

In OP quote he gives you a solid example to get intuition to the idea, that of aesthetics. Ponder about aesthetics for a while to see why we are losing ”authenticity”. A good start in is the evolution of architecture
