My aunt, who is addled from years of taking Zoloft and downers and being an alcoholic, recently had the inspiration to gift this to my grandmother. My grandmother used to be something of a liberal (my grandfather would go as far to jokingly call her a raving liberal) but is sort of unhinged herself now, with the progression of old age. It's not that she's completely lost her mind, but she certainly wouldn't spare the time or have the patience of mind to pore over Michelle Obama's work, even if she was ecstatic to see a black woman be the first lady. My aunt doesn't realize this, so she asks my grandpa to buy it, saying that she'll pay him back. My grandfather is still sharp for his age, and I could tell he really didn't want to get the book. This is partly because he knew my incapable aunt would never pay him back, but more so because he is more aware than I that the wife he has loved for four decades will not come to value the book as anything other than a small conversation piece. He bought it, it was gifted, and now I can see it sitting under the table near our bookshelf in the living room. It will probably never be opened but the thought's what counts, right?

I do not disagree. This is an excellent idea. It will never happen until after this current establishment is overthrown. The current establishment in the US, Left, right, or otherwise, only serves the needs of the establishment. It is pretty bad here. Regardless, this is real:

You mean like a school garden where kids learn about growing food and tending to plants, then harvest and eat the vegetables? That is a pretty good idea, but good luck rolling it out across the country, especially inner-city schools were space is already at a premium. I think your dreams of a veggie patch somehow empowering and strengthening communities area little far-fetched too.

Not sure what you mean by this. As much as I like the idea of City States, I'm not sure how that would work in a modern world where the boundaries between cities can easily be blurred by limitless sprawl.

>Counter-argument - Rooftop Gardens
Counter-counter-argument - Rooftop gardens would require substantial modifications to the existing structure. Not saying it's impossible, just expensive. That's the problem. The garden idea is a good one and I would support it, but some areas are going to be harder and more expensive than others.

While i think that you are just full of spooks i have to agree with you on the military tax.
Im not even american and yet i still think that the military is one of the most useless and cancerous things that exist today.
There is no need to waste so much money in armies, tanks and special units when literally you will never put it to use. The existance of nuclear weapons in almost every major country make great armies useless tumors.
More than half of the "war on terrorism" is done by spying agencies and at the very best a small number of special forces to arrest them.
The army just serves as a useless recruit for the dumbfucks of society that have nothing to offer but their muscles, all they do is train, suck money out of people and pat themselves of how good they are for "fighting for your own country".
There is nothing that angers me the most than seeing shit heads acting tough and heroic for being in the army as if it really something to be proud of.
