Why don't people respect Charles Dickens on this board? Are his stories just not serious enough or is it because he is well know to have broad appeal? Or is it because he was paid by the word? He definitely knew how to write some pretty captivating stories. Also happy holidays

Faggots from this site think it's bad because it's popular and appeared in Oprah's book list. Happy Holidays.

I respect Charles Dickens.

A lot of us love Dickens, especially David Copperfield, Bleak House, and The Pickwick Papers. But I'll admit he's divisive, and for a variety of reasons (sentimentality, anti-realist elements, Victorian verbosity, etc.).

Because he's fun to read and you don't need to be versed in obscure knowledge to understand him.

Also, /polit/ probably doesn't like hime because he was a cucked, balding, soiboi who wrote about impoverished NPC's.

His Hollywood-style ‘happy ends’ where everyone marries, the lost are found and bad are punished (but not too harsh) are nauseating.

He has good humor though and some of his protagonists (usually secondary) are brilliant.

I think Dickens is a pretty cool guy. He's comfy and funny and pseuds seem to hate him.

So did Tolstoy and he gets tons of threads.

He’s not on the level of the true greats, but he is the very pinnacle of what we would call popular fiction. The last chapter of A Tale of Two Cities? Perfect.

I would guess everybody here loves Sherlock Holmes.
