Not if you get into an MFA program at a prestigious university.

It depends on what kind of writer you are. If you just want to be a decent enough writer who sells books, then going to a decent college will help you. And it will help you in these ways: it will allow you to network, it will introduce you to influences you otherwise might not have found, it might introduce some discipline and work ethic, and it should help you to hone your craft. If you’re pursuing greatness like many on this board (even though they won’t find it of course) it will not do much for you except put you in debt.

Rich MFAs are the only writers who get published and taken seriously. Otherwise you’ll just be larping.

Not at all. They don’t publish poor black and gay people, only the privileged ones. It really is a class issue. Personally I’m combatting it by studying machine learning. There is a lot of workers in this field. We should be able to automate fiction and nonfiction in a few decades at most. Hell, the social sciences are already mostly automated. Look up the program Nvivo. Clickbait is actually a stepping stone to machine produced best sellers. Your time is up you fucking Martha’s Vineyard faggots. Heil Burroughs!

nobody actually reads MFA shit but other MFAs though, the teaching racket is a retarded circlejerk. when people say they want to be successful authors they don't mean they want to be some tenured old prune living a lie, they want to be a famous meme boy like DFW

you can do that with or without a pedigree, it's a roll of the dice if bougie twats will consider you fashionable or not.

*blocks your path*

we can go back and forth posting examples of outsiders versus MFAs but ultimately the point is the MFA doesn't make the meme, the meme is just more likely to be MFA but it's not like it's required or predictable

No because when you inevitably realize you need to be able to feed yourself you’ll be able to find some kind of job
