What are your favourite historical fiction books? What is your favourite period for them to be set in?

Pynchons my fav historical writer for sure because my fav thing in historical books is goofs, gags, intentional anachronisms and being reminded that what history deems important about an age is always drstically different from what it itself considered to be, and his books are full to the brim of it.

If you are interested in some nonfiction try The Sea Wolves: A History of the Vikings by Lars Brownworth.
