>"But I am aware of some that murmur: What, say they, if all men should abstain from all sexual intercourse, whence will the human race exist? Would that all would this, only in 'charity out of a pure heart, and good conscience, and faith unfeigned'; much more speedily would the City of God be filled, and the end of the world hastened."

I agree with this unironically. The fact that the modern Protestant church has become a dating service and Christianity as a whole has become a strict defender of the family only goes to show that it cares little about self-denial and the metaphysical. That isn't to say that sex is bad; it's actually beautiful under the right circumstances. However, the unfortunate truth that chastity isn't held above, as a higher calling than the family, is proof that Christianity has been perverted.

1 Corinthians 7
>Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

>To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

"Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judæa, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind."

Christian asceticism, and moderate/chaste sexual attitudes stem mostly from platonic, neoplatonic neopythagorean, and stoic influences, that also strongly shaped the Roman family. Aceticism is the ultimate ideal for mankind; whereas, indulgence of base passions and appetites removes the only thing that separates us from animals. Thus the decadence of Nero is what is the true hatred of being human, something that says you must distract yourself and pretend it's an act of control or "being human" than admit the reality that these pleasures are vain and hollow and they do not satisfy the existential thirst and desire to exert agency over ourselves.

>why is Augustine saying this
Because he was a (barely) reformed heretic himself, a Manichean who poisoned Christianity with his idea of connecting the Satan of scripture with specific peoples and nations. This is how the philosophy of love and forgiveness taught by Christ became a crusading political force in Rome. Augustine was the worst thing to happen to us.

It's what is normally called an argument, the point being that even if we were to grant the objection, even if the entire world were to maintain in virginity from a "[love of God] out of a pure heart, and good conscience, and faith unfeigned," what is surely an impossibility given the reality of our world, then even from this supposed calamity a remarkable good would arise, meaning the objection is bunk. In the same passage he further says, 'Whence it seems to me, that at this time, those only, who contain not, ought to marry, according to that sentence of the same Apostle, "But if they contain not, let them be married: for it is better to be married than to burn."'

This image is true even for 100% heterosexual men.
Especially in regards to porn/masturbation and casual sex, even intercourse. That's one reason why I like the image. When I fall back into the habit, I'll repeat this quote from it that I memorized, "furthermore, the will, agitated by the insatiable drive for pleasure, no longer follows reason but rather the tumult of the passions". There is no balance of pornography usage, there is no moderation. It's all consuming. You're going to be dealing with daily horniness if you reguarlly have sexual activity. That's something that just distracts, lowers the mind and makes you focus on a consumption oriented lifestyle. It's unsatisfying, meaningless and if indulged drags great men down to the level of worthless ones.

Evangelization.We've already done it.
Ecumenicalism.Been there, done that.
Tolerance. Doesn't live here anymore. It's been evicted.
It vacated the house for the new tenant, who has diametrically opposite tastes in decorating.

We've been reaching out to others for years now.
It's time to stop! We are not going anywhere. We are here. Because, what are we?
We are cement.
And cement doesn't move. We are cement without windows. So, we don't look to the outside world. "Only the Church possesses the charisma of truth", said St. Ignatius of Antioch. And he was right. We have no reason to look out. Instead, look over there. What do you see? That's the door. The only way in.Small and extremely uncomfortable. And anyone who wants to know us has to find out how to get through that door.

Brother cardinals, we need to go back to being prohibited.
Inaccessible and mysterious.
That's the only way we can once again become desirable. That is the only way great loves stories are born. And I don't want any more part-time believers.
I want great love stories.
I want fanatics for God. Because fanaticism is love.
Everything else is strictly a surrogate, and it stays outside the church.
With the attitudes of the last Papacy, the church won for itself great expressions of fondness from the masses. It became popular. Isn't that wonderful, you might be thinking! We received plenty of esteem and lots of friendship. I have no idea what to do with the friendship of the whole wide world—what I want is absolute love and total devotion to God.

Could that mean a Church only for the few? That's a hypothesis, and a hypothesis isn't the same as reality. But even this hypothesis isn't so scandalous. I say: better to have a few that are reliable than to have a great many that are distractible and indifferent.
The public squares have been jam-packed, but the hearts have been emptied of God.
You can't measure love with numbers, you can only measure it in terms of intensity.
In terms of blind loyalty to the imperative. Fix that word firmly in your souls: Imperative. From this day forth, that's what the Pope wants, that's what the Church wants, that's what God wants. And so the liturgy will no longer be a social engagement, it will become hard work. And sin will no longer be forgiven at will. I don't expect any applause from you. There will be no expressions of thanks in this chapel.
None from me and none from you.

Uh-huh.
>Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
>They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
>Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.”
>“Abraham is our father,” they answered.
>“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would[c] do what Abraham did. As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. You are doing the works of your own father.”
>“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”
>Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
>The Jews answered him [with their lies]
