Just thought about making a thread about him. I started eith Submission and lately finished Platform. What should I read next?
I thought about Map and Territory first but right now I'm thinking about starting at the beginning with Whatever.
Also I'm hyped now for the new novel coming in January.

Because he legitimizes the incel's tears. Everything the incel hears hearsay about women he believes, but most especially he believes the stories related by a chronic lothario that women are as weak and insecure as he is, for the lothario is endowed with charm, which lends absolute and mystical authority to his claims that the world is sad and empty, which is something the incel understands as well, for it is a universal truth, but cannot grasp because he will never touch a woman just as he will never touch the sands of Sri Lanka. Thus, we see that the incel comes from ignorance. The lothario comes from wisdom. But as the ignorance is of a permanent and unsolvable kind, the lothario is not a teacher but rather a story-teller. And who doesn't love a good story?

I mean, he's a pretty decent writer but he's not great. I have no idea why he keeps getting spammed here.
He's like the french equivalent of stephen king, which isn't intended as an insult..... but neither of them can be considered serious literature.

If i was stuck at an airport I would read one of his books to kill some time

You didn't even read anything by him, did you? Also you've been on the internet for too long by seeing anything related to incelism in his books, not to mention that the protagonists usually get laid easily but rather miss any real perspective in life and the will to found a family. Also Houellebecq usually portrays both men and women of today in a bad light, he is commenting on western society as a whole and not just single parts of it. For every "misogynist" part in his writings there is a weak and ridiculous male character.
And in the end he is actually a romantic idealist who actually believes in love but can't find it in today's times.

How is Houellebecq even remotely related to Stephen King? I really don't get, you've been posting this weird comparison before.
Is your only point of comparison that he is one of the most famous contemporary writers of his country while the french don't even like him that much?

>you didn't even read anything by him, did you?
I read Atomize and The Possibility of an Island
>usually portrays both men and women of today in a bad light
My point exactly, in case you missed it. I don't have anything against incels. I view them as objectively as I view trees.
>commenting on western society as a whole
Spoken like a true dilettante
>For every misogynist part in his writings there is a weak and ridiculous male character
Because they are two sides of the same coin

Your immediate defense of the incel where no slight was shown, your tilting upon the windmills, leads me to think you an incel yourself.

You were the one to start with the whole incel shit and it seems like you are unable to criticize an author without relying on internet memes.
You're excessively using a buzzword to "prove" your point and now you accuse me of being an incel myself?
Just FYI: I both highly enjoy the company of girls and I do enjoy reading Houellebecq and I don't live in any kind of celibate. I have both touched sands of the mediterranean sea and warm big breasts, so fuck off.
And where did I even defend incels? I defended H.'s works against being associated with this phenomenon only because it fits your stereotypes.

He's pretty based. I seriously can't think of someone else alive who's just as based. Someone famous, anyway.
