I read an excerpt from Justine (I think, it might have been Juliette) and i thought it was going to be tame but it was legitimately disturbing. It was the part about Minski the Ogre who invites he MCs into his rape dungeon and tells them his life story and how he fucks girls and boys as young as seven to death with his gargantuan penis. What really heightened the sickening aspect of this was how De Sade presented him as some kind of Superhuman hero to look up to, how he was a model libertine.

Sade shows through his stories that all of us are depraved and extract pleasure (even If not directly) from the suffering of others. Would you enjoy reading Justine If nothing bad happened to her? Nope. Boring story. Torment is what makes his books interesting and by enjoying the books, we are all guilty. He was a man ahead of his time.
