It pisses me THE FUCK off. All the greatest writers of the 20th century were right-wing

- Yeats
- Eliot
- Pound
- Mishima
- Nabokov
- Henry James
- D.H. Lawrence
- Hamsun
- Evelyn Waugh
- E. M. Forster
- Conrad

All we leftists have are morons and non-entities like Toni Morrison, Orwell, Garcia Marquez, and Stephen King

It's almost like being a leftist is a prerequisite for being a mediocrity in the literary world. But why?

Clearly the odd one out and by including him you refuted your own point because I know you're an insufferable druggie 420 fagoo for even equating him to Wilde.

No way, dude was an archetypical socialist. Romantic, but not utopian.

Or, stay with me for a sec, we could just talk about the works of all these great authors and not abuse them in order to score for our stupid political views.

>> No.11876890

The left had mostly exhausted itself by the 20th century and struggled with its identity as much of their rhetoric was subsumed into the lexicon of global-liberalism (think woke capitalism). Trying to maintain a distinct identity during a period where your ethics were hijacked by capitalism and all practical attempts at implementing theory had resulted in less than desirable outcomes was exhausting and depleted any remaining reserves. The only people who really continued the tradition of explicitly left-literature were int he Americas and viewed as talented yet quaint provincials, part of the fiery local flavor and a tourist attraction that is revolution-as-theme-park.

High-Modernism, which was mostly a right affair, was invigorated by the chaos of the early 20th century and found inspiration in resistance to the post-war order at a time when the left was being forced to reckon with the failure of their projects. Of course this could not last for long and soon all the right could produce was shit like the Turner Diaries as Conservatism was crowned controlled opposition to progressive-liberalism and anything further right than that was cause for exile.

So the real question is why did the right holdout for a couple decades more than the left did before turning to shit. My guess is that they were not as demoralized as the left. That the left saw their own projects self-destruct while the right's projects were defeated by external threats.

Nobody would claim Wilde was a marxist, come on. He was just a regular socialist in his time.

As for "vague claims", gonna have to disagree with you. He was pretty clear about how he saw the failures of capitalism and what he thought the benefits of socialism were. Or did you only read the quotes of this >>11876872 pic and assume that's all he said lol?

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, and the globalisation of labour, the Left has basically capitulated to capitalism and satisfied itself by creating rent seeking collectives out of demographic groups. By wielding the rage potential of groups defined by race, gender, sexuality, and other biologically mapped factors, it has found a soft/feeble way to contend with capitalism and mass democracy. Its recent contributions to literature essentially reflect this atrocious politics. Which is why there is blatant discrimination in favour of these groups, and why these groups are raised up as sacrilising figures over utterly shitty literature and poetry. People from these groups could say or do anything and it would be brave and powerful.

On the other hand, the Right has almost completely lost any cultural vitality it had. Beyond a few old fucks, no one bothers to defend readings of literature that value: greatness, mastery, beauty, individual aesthetic experience, technical innovation, or national/imperial/aristocratic/royal patronage. They have reduced literature to a whore of markets, and they deserve the absurd abundance of left wing hacks and nutjobs in university literature departments. They occasionally whine, or give lip service, but they don't do anything.
