Fuck, I just borrowed Notes from the Underground but it's really tempting to read GR with the group.

Can I join if I didn't read anything of Pynchon's work or you think it will be too heavy?

Neither.
They're both trash. You're experiencing preference falsification.
You want to read about some guy in a wheelchair getting a sex act preformed on him or nigger dick and shit? That's what you'll find in these two miserable books.

You could give The Crying of Lot 49 a read. It could give you a sense of what Pynchon has to offer.

I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it, and then I went on to V instead of GR (was told that V is good for preparing you for GR). But part way through V I just became disinterested (just seems like fuck all is going on), and decided it was silly to read some other book as a prerequisite for the book I really want to read (especially when it isn't actually a true prerequisite). V shares characters with GR apparently, but aside from that it isn't necessary to read before GR.
