Released on March 9, 2011, the New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE) is the culmination of nearly 20 years of work by a group of nearly 100 scholars and theologians, including bishops, revisers and editors. The NABRE includes a newly revised translation of the entire Old Testament (including the Book of Psalms) along with the 1986 edition of the New Testament.

Not the anon you are replying to but the verdict is bassically original language is obviously the best if you can read it. After that it is a long spew of disagreements based on variablility within value of various aspects such as accuracy versus readibility. I was on a while back when the consensus began to lean toward KJV, which I strongly hope has faded from the norm.

Read whichever one you enjoy reading. Read some passages online and then choose. Any Word for Word (Essentially literal) translation is good.

I recommend trying out the ESV, NKJV, or NRSV. Also it doesn't hurt to read more than one translation (actually it's good). Read John in one translation, then try another.
