don't even bother trying to 'get into' it. just exercise self-awareness and start from there

how do you know once you've unto existentialism?

in my experience, getting 'into' existentialism isn't really a 'getting into-ing' as it was a gradual slide. i read books, spouted out 'existence precedes essence', and watched a fair share of Goddard films. but you soon realize that existentialism not an explanation to what the world is or how it functions. it just 'is'. then you get over it, incorporate it into your life, and then start reading about something else. no big party, no streamers, no big tarp that says "welcome!". just the opening of a door and a short, muttered "come in".
closest i can say is that when you get to the point where you accept things not only as what they are but also what they 'can' be, then you've sort-of 'unto' it. take that as you will.

thanks mate nice to see you write out what I believe is more or less my experience too. I am kind of embarrassed to say it/don't know how to say it but for whatever reason I am very very sensitive to existential thoughts and I often have random moments of panic when I spend too much time looking closely at my experience/existence. But I am coming close to being at peace.

There is an edgy scene towards the end where the utterly autistic protagonist tips his fedora at a priest and "confronts" religion with the cringiness of an adolescent telling his parents why he won't come to church.
