Most of the people here are going to recommend you a bunch of 1000 page books that you're never going to read.

But you want to make yourself seem cultured in a relatively quick manner with as little effort as possible, right?

Stick to things that are short and easy to read. Don't try reading fucking Bleak House, stick with A Christmas Carol and Hard Times. Don't read Crime and Punishment, read Notes from Underground instead. Etc., etc. If you can handle the language, read Shakespeare's plays. Read books like Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Gulliver's Travels because they will appeal to you if you're a Tolkienfag. Read books that were literally made for children like The Jungle Book and Brothers Grimm stories. Don't bother reading an entire poetry collection or short story collection. Pick out the most famous poems or short stories and only read those.
